In late 2006, MOSERWOOD FARMS acquired 103 acres of fertile grazing land and alfalfa hay fields in Pleasureville, Kentucky, approximately 40 minutes up I-71 from our other location in Prospect. We call our second location "Moserwood Farms II." Our farm manager resides in the primary residence there.
In May 2012, the new Second Stride - Rutherford arena neared completion and was finished in August.
The farm has 4 tobacco barns, 4 good sized ponds, a limestone base to the fields, and a spring that has a pump and well to allow spring watered fields. In the past it was a thriving tobacco farm that was visited by President Bill Clinton. We are updating the facility daily and look forward to modeling it in the image of our Prospect location.
This addition is used in combination with our current leased facility in Prospect to accommodate our steady growth, and allow more opportunities for sponsoring SecondStride, Inc. racehorses needing room to mend or to await adoption.
In 2008, we started renovating one of the farm's tobacco barns to get it ready for horses. In 2009 we painted, and installed electric with outlets for each stall and overhead lighting.
The farm's beautiful alfalfa fields produce very high quality hay.
This farm is certified and listed with the Agriculture District #052-01. This is part of the Kentucky Soil and Water Conservation Commission. We are a part of that Agricultural District Program through July 2014 at which time we will be up for recertification.
Ongoing plans include improving existing fencing, adding additional safe fencing and run-in sheds.
All turnout pastures have automatic waterers, installed in 2009.
Timothy/alfalfa hay from the farm is a State Fair award winner. Growing our own hay ensures the highest quality for our horses' feed.
